I went to the DC area for work Tuesday thru Friday. And a long plane trip, ride on a bus, and a jaunt on the metro later and Dave met me in DC on Friday evening. We had an awesome dinner at Ruth Chris in Crystal city over looking the capital.
Saturday we got up early and rode the Metro into "the mall". First was the Washington Monument.
We took an elevator to the top and enjoyed the breath taking views
Then over to the World War II Memorial. Unfortunately, because of the extremely cold weather the fountains had been drained, but it was still beautiful.
Then we walked the long walk thru the usually filled with water Reflecting Pool to the Lincoln Memorial.
The Korean War Veterans Memorial was very artistic and even a little erie
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was incredibly moving. I didn't expect to be so moved, but it was just overwhelming.
Then we walked thru the Constitution Gardens...
...on the way to the White House.
Then we headed over to the National Archives to view the Magna Carta, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence.
We toured a few of the Smithsonian Museums briefly and then made our move toward the Capital Building. It was quite possibly the most beautiful building I have even seen.
The Peace Monument in front of the Capital Building to the north of the Grant Monument
The Garfield Memorial on the south side of the the Grant Monument
The Ulysses S. Grant memorial in front of the Capital Building
Then with only an hour before closing we hoped on the Metro and headed to the Arlington Cemetery. We didn't have much time so we headed straight to he JFK grave site.
Sunday was spend touring Georgetown
I just loved Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Can't wait to go back! The only down side...it was FREEZING (actually, far below freezing!)
